Food and drink: Firehouse specializes in steak -- hand-cut beef, New York strips and more. Other items on the menu include fish and salads, such as char-grilled Caesar and a wedge salad -- a chunk of iceberg with bleu cheese on top, bacon bits and a shot of cucumber vodka on the side. The largest steak on the menu is a 56-ounce porterhouse for $66. We hear three people ate every ounce of their steaks. James McNulty, one of the firefighter brothers who owns Firehouse, said if you finish the ginormous porterhouse, you get a glass of cognac and a cigar on the house and your name on a plaque.
Firehouse features a wide selection of liquors and wines and has a full liquor bar.
Most popular items on the menu: The Firehouse filet with the dynamite topping, an Asian-infused aioli with shrimp and scallops.
Average price for an entree: Dinner entrees range from about $16 to $25.
Atmosphere: The lounge is set up like an antique firehouse with 1890-1920s dcor. Since the restaurant is run by two volunteer firefighter brothers from beachside, you'll find lots of firefighter memorabilia. The restaurant has outside seating as well as a bar and full dining room. If you're a firefighter and you bring in a patch that isn't already on the wall, you can score a free beer.
Crowd: The Firehouse Restaurant and Lounge is small and quaint. The inside is classy, decorated in dark colors with low lighting. Patrons can choose to dine inside in a real intimate setting or outside under the stars. The food not only looked fantastic, it must have tasted fantastic, as everyone was requesting a photo with the chef. The patrons and staff were both fun and friendly. The dress was surprisingly casual, but maybe that had something to do with the Friday Fest activities going on outside.
