To call Sunday brunch at The Dove Restaurant an unapologetic pig-out would do injustice to the elegant surroundings and the piano player. Instead, let’s call it decadent, with its champagne, mimosas and bloody Marys, fresh-made waffles and eggs Benedict, and a buffet that runs the gamut from pasta and beef to crepes to traditional breakfast fare, including omelets made to order.
The Dove has been around since 1989 in Satellite Beach, offering Italian cuisine and what it described as an “Old World style bar.” It’s old school, pleasant and welcoming. We sampled much of its wonderful brunch, and there were several highlights, such as the large, tasty shrimp and cocktail sauce; the little bagels with delicious smoked salmon and cream cheese; and the very good eggs benedict, with sauce that had a hint of lemon.
For those who are thinking more lunch than brunch, there was hearty baked ziti, eggplant rollatini, beef tips marsala, small crab cakes, a green salad and more. For those craving breakfast, the chocolate or strawberry crepes, pancakes, waffles and other breads were tempting. For the sweet tooth, there was fruit, cannoli, Italian cheesecake and an airy chocolate mousse. There were other little delights, such as the caprese salad with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, and the tiny, sticky cinnamon rolls.
Our server handed us a sense of humor with our drinks, which are included in the bargain price of $21.95 per person. According to the Web site, kids younger than 12 pay half price. We thoroughly enjoyed the feast, which offered quality as well as quantity. And the relaxed atmosphere gave us a wonderful way to start off our Sunday.
