Thousands of chicken wings will be consumed this weekend as local restaurants gear up for the Super Bowl.

According to Charles and LaToya Walker, owners of Big League Subs, 1561 N. Singleton Ave., Titusville, they’ve cooked and served more than

1 million wings in the four years the restaurant has been there. They’re gearing up for a big Sunday.

Although “subs” is in the name of the sports-themed restaurant, the Walkers maintain they’re mostly known for their wings.

“The difference between my wings and everybody else’s wings are: They are fresh, they are crispy, and they are juicy,” Charles Walker said.

Customers have a choice of nine flavors. Some include garlic Parmesan, lemon pepper garlic, garlic teriyaki, sweet barbecue and lemon pepper.

A lot of the sandwiches at Big League are named after sports plays. For instance, the Triple Play, the Blitz, the Overtime and, perfect for Sunday football, the Super Bowl.

Broken Barrel Tavern, 4700 Babcock St., Palm Bay, knows a thing or two about wings also. The top sellers are the smoked wings, which are smoked with a dry rub seasoning and finished off on the grill, said owner Kevin Menard. “They have the crispy skin, and it’s a much healthier option because you’re not frying the smoked wing.”

Broken Barrel has accompanying sauces for the wings including Jamaican jerk, honey habanero and bourbon barbecue. Other wing options include garlic Parmesan butter, mild, hot, mild with garlic and hot with garlic.

“We serve thousands during Super Bowl Sunday,” Menard said, adding when you bite into their smoked wings, “you get just a big blast of flavor.”
