Just because they’re called ‘Of Montreal’ doesn’t mean they’re actually ‘from Montreal’

It’s the most confusing trend in indie rock: naming your band after a place you’re not actually from. This fall alone sees the release of new albums from Of Montreal (not Canadian), I’m From Barcelona (not Spanish), the Bronx (not New Yorkers) and Brighton, MA (not from Massachusetts). What gives?
