Ricky Gervais was disgusting and boring. The show could have been a lot better with someone else hosting. I just wanted to turn the TV off, ever...

Highs and lows from this year's show
By Geoff Berkshire, Metromix
The host with the most (snark)
Hate him? Love him? Love to hate or hate to love him? Whatever the reaction, any discussion of this year's Globes begins with host Ricky Gervais.
Gervais went beyond cutting remarks directed at the usual celebrity targets (Charlie Sheen; "some famous Scientologists"). He took on the nominees ("I haven't even seen 'The Tourist.' Who has?") and the Golden Globe organization itself ("All that happened was some of [the voters] were taken to see Cher in concert. How the hell is that a bribe?"). It was a blistering (and, at least from my chair, uproarious) attack on everything sanctimonious and self-satisfied about award shows.
A few presenters seemed to fight back from the stage: Robert Downey Jr. described the show as "hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones" and Tom Hanks cracked "Like many of you, we recall back when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian."
Even if Gervais never gets another hosting gig in his life, this one was worth it.
