Zap Squad review: 'Sex and the City' parties

What: Premiere Theaters Oaks 10 

Where: 1800 W. Hibiscus Blvd., Melbourne; 953-3388; premieretheaters.com 

Hours: Open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Depending on the movie and day, the theater usually closes between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Last movie usually starts about 11:50 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday, the last movie starts at 10:10 p.m. Last movie starts at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. 

Entertainment: Mainly movies. Oaks features $4 morning movies (those showing before noon); late-night movies, summer kids’ movies, digital 3-D movies, $5 Tuesdays and free popcorn Wednesdays (enroll in free loyalty program).

Sometimes there’s a theme party, depending on the movie releases. If there’s a lot of hype — such as with the “Harry Potter” or “Twilight” flicks — there will be a promotion for it. 

Food and drink: Popcorn, of course. Other fare includes hot dogs, pizza, chicken and fries, mozzarella sticks, pretzels, candy and cinnamon-roasted nuts. If you’re thirsty, drink gourmet coffee, frozen drinks, Icees and soda. 

Crowd: On the night we went, dozens of women were dressed to the nines for the Oaks’ “Sex and the City 2” party. Some arrived by limousine. Many sipped Cosmopolitans and enjoyed a fashion show. There was entertainment, a chocolate fountain, giveaways and plenty of high heels. 

Atmosphere: It’s an upscale movie theater with a balcony for private parties. Oaks has 10 theaters. It shows 3-D films.

Next up: If you’ve missed out on the “Twilight” vampire saga, don’t fret. The Oaks will show “Twilight” and “New Moon” at 7 p.m. June 29. “Eclipse,” the third installment of the Bella-Edward-Jacob triangle, starts at 12:01 a.m. June 30. If you have costumes such as Team Edward or Team Jacob shirts, sport them. Tickets can be bought early.
