Zap Squad review: Tapps

Plenty of people had a good time partying at Tapps in Palm Bay. Drink your way around the world with Tapps' selection of brews. The pub has 30 brands on tap, including Leinenhuges and Tucher, and scores more by the bottle. Service industry workers get 20 percent off every night and half off on Sunday. Dart boards, pool tables and plenty of screens tuned to the game mean there's lots to do. Tuesday night is poker night. Wednesday is open mic. Live bands play Fridays and Saturdays. Hours: Tapps is open from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
 
Entertainment: Tapps has it all when it comes to entertainment, pool tables, darts, pinball, live entertainment and several TVs to catch all your favorite sporting events. Here is a break down of some of the fun:
•Monday: Dart League, 7:30 p.m.; Monday Night Football, but you’ll have to wait until next season now.
•Tuesday: Texas Hold ’em at 7 p.m. with $1 pints from 9 p.m. to close; $3 day, 3 way — Jack, Captain or Absolut anyway you like
•Wednesday: Ladies night with great drink specials and a DJ; $3 day, 3 way — Jack, Captain or Absolut anyway you like
•Thursday: Beer pong with $1 pints from 9 p.m. to close; $3 UV drinks and bombs; $3 day, 3 way — Jack, Captain or Absolut anyway you like
•Friday and Saturday: Live music from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Check their Web site or call ahead for a list of performers.
•Sunday: S.I.N. Night, half off all drinks 9 p.m. to close for all service industry workers.
 
Food and drink: Tapps has a very limited menu, which includes nachos and pizza. That’s it, but there’s a bright side, they serve them until closing time, perfect for a late-night snack.
 
Enjoy happy hour specials from the full-size bar from 2 to 7 p.m. everyday. There is plenty to choose from with more than 200 beers available.

Atmosphere: Tapps is a smoker-friendly bar which makes it, of course, very smoky. The place is large and spacious with plenty of seats around the bar and several tables. The walls are filled with typical bar decor, anything sports-related, neon signs, etc. The music was pretty loud, encouraging everyone to let loose, but I still was able to carry on a conversation.
 
Crowd: When I first arrived the crowd consisted of patrons in their 20s to 50s, but as the night progressed we were looking at a crowd in their 20s to 30s. However, no matter what the age everyone seemed to have one thing in common, they were looking for a good time, and Tapps is where they found it. It felt like this was a bar where everyone knew everyone and somehow even though this was my first visit they knew me. This was a fun-time crowd and that’s what they were having, fun times. The staff was incredible, joining in on the good times while keeping it very professional.
