Entertainment: There always is a good time at the Sandbar. So stop in anytime, every day has something special to offer:

The Sandbar has several TVs throughout so you can catch your favorite sporting events. A pool table also is available for your enjoyment.

  • Food and drink: The Sandbar serves a full menu every day until midnight. Since the Sandbar is known as the "home of the fish taco," that may be the place to start. However, if that's not your thing, there are plenty of other options to choose from, including conch fritters, wings, salads, New York-style pizza, burritos, fajitas and wraps.

No need for a sitter, bring the kids. They'll be psyched when their meal is served on a Frisbee they can take home. Check out the Sandbar's daily specials on its Web site.

With a full liquor bar and 16 beers on tap, the Sandbar is especially proud of the Hurricanes. Order anywhere from a Category one to five, with a five being the mother of all drinks with five shots of rum.  "We don't run from hurricanes, we drink them," said Andrew Bunin, owner of the Sandbar.

If you want something special, I'm told to ask for Drew, and he will get it for you.

    Cover: Never.

Atmosphere: The Sandbar is right on the beach, decorated with typical beach decor. The tiki heads, surfboards and lingering beachgoers create a very casual, relaxing and fun vibe. The restaurant is spacious and open in the back, allowing the beach breeze to blow in, giving the entire establishment a real outdoorsy feel.

Crowd: On the night I was there, the Sandbar was full of regulars, locals, tourists and families. Some came straight from work while others came straight from the beach to kick back, relax and enjoy great food, drinks and entertainment. The large crowd consisting of all ages was casual, laid-back and looking for a fun place to hang out and spend time with family and friends.

Ages: All ages until 10 p.m., after that it's 21 and older.

Dress code: Very casual. No shoes, no shirt, no problem.

Parking: Limited parking in front of the establishment. Free parking available across the street or at Shepard Park.

    Smoking: Outside deck only.

Other stuff: Visit the Sandbar Pizza Grill in Melbourne Beach, where Ocean Avenue meets the beach. While you are there, make sure you say hi to Grandma Jean, Bunin says.
